Habitat:Shrub and dwarf-tree grassland, usually on hard-pan grey soils or heavy black soils. The tree has a symbiotic relationship with ants living in the bulbous spines, The ants protect the tree against herbivores.
Origin/distribution, remarks:Eastern Tropical Africa - Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania. It might be the dominant tree in upland East Africa. Syn.: Acacia drepanolobium.
